READ and comment on other blogs
Notice that the title has the word READ in capital letters? If you are going to comment on other people’s blogs, you should read the article first. I also like to read the other comments, as it will give you more information about the tone of the conversation, if someone else already posted a comment about what you were going to write, other ideas to comment about, etc.
Bottom line is that the comment section is a place to start a conversation about a specific article. It is a way to interact with other users and hopefully with the author him/herself. When you comment, you join that conversation. The same way you would join a conversation at a party, by having some input into the subject, is how you join this conversation.
One of the purposes of joining a conversation (commenting) could be to get people to come over to your site and have them read and comment on your articles thus building your readership. One thing you should not do however is interrupt the conversation by saying something like - “come over to my website and check out my latest post…” or anything similar that is not adding value to the conversation.
But how can I get people to come to my site w/o mentioning it in my comment?
The purpose of the comment is to add value to the conversation. By adding value to conversations that are of similar subject matter to your content, then you will pique the interest of other commentors or even the author and they will find your site. How? Many sites let you include your website name as a link to you commentator name. So when you are filling out the boxes that have your name, email and website, fill them all out. Then anyone who thinks your comments are great and wants to see what type of articles you write can easily click on your name and find out.
What if the site doesn’t let you put in a website, or you have to fill out a profile?
Easy. In your profile there will be a spot to put your website in. People will view your profile and then see your website and presto. Second, if neither the profile, nor the comment form allow you to put your website in, use your website name as your username. For instance, if I am commenting on a site that deals with blogging, I use the name of Ben and link it to this site. If however they didn’t allow linking of websites I could easily use BlogmasterGeneral as the username. This would get my website name across just as easily.
But I don’t know how to comment!
Relax, I made a post about this very early on. Here is the link. How to Comment on Blogs.
Didn’t get enough information? Here is another post I made about the subject on my Mitchendise website. It goes more in depth on using the commenting to market your site / products.
Good information? Did you already know this? You are so smart, that is why you love coming back, and I love having you. Having trouble commenting? Need some more pointers? Let me know, leave a comment
