Starting from Scratch

What is a blog? The term “blog” is short for Web Log. A blog is simply a collection of short related posts. The author(s) tend to keep the information to a narrow subject matter. This can be thought of as a niche news article service. It can also be thought of as an online diary that most anyone can access.
There are a couple of pieces that general identify something as a blog.
First, a blog as defined above is found on the internet (web).
Second, as mentioned above there are posts or short articles. You don’t generally see lengthy in-depth articles (although you can).
Third, there is an option for users to comment or give feedback to the posts.
Those are really the main points of a blog.
To begin to create a blog, there are a couple of things we need to brainstorm first.
- What is the purpose for creating a blog
- What will the subject matter be
- What will the name be
- Who should have access to it
- Do you want to use the free tools or have your own website
Those are just the first couple of things to think about before starting. There are many more decisions along the way.
In the next 5 posts I will go over each of those items, so in the mean time start thinking about each one and come up with some ideas for each. Then you can match your ideas to the thoughts on each in the posts.

I like your theme. I’ve seen it around but I never get tired of looking at it! Great name too. It took me a bit of looking to figure out how to leave a comment. I clicked on the title which I am sure most bloggers know but newbies? I am not so sure. I will be back.

Very good point on new bloggers / visitors not knowing how to leave a comment on a post – yeah it took me a while to figure it out the first time as well but didn’t think to include that in my posts.

Yeah, I have started a lot of stuff before thinking them all the way through. Fortunately they didn’t cost me much and offered a lot of learning experience.
